About Légèreté USA

Légèreté USA is a nonprofit organization that exists for the preservation and furtherment of Philippe Karl's Ecole de Légèreté  in the United States. Our duties currently include obtaining visa's for certified instructors and maintaining this website as a central resource for clinic dates, information and media.

The school of Légèreté aids in the longevity of a sound and healthy horse by providing an understandable and reliable training plan with clear principles, efficient methods and procedures that fully respect the nature of the horse. It will offer any serious motivated rider access to high school equitation, and achieve a goal where you can get the best from any horse with the most minimal of means.

There are two types of Légèreté clinics available in the United States; Teachers' Courses and open clinics.

  • Teachers' Courses within the US are only taught by Bertrand Ravoux and are for the purpose of educating instructors who wish to become certified within the School of Légèreté. Teachers' Courses consist of 10 individual clinics over the span of 40 months, with the same student riders participating each time. Auditors are welcome to attend either individual clinic installments or the entire course. There are currently two Teachers' Courses and one mixed Teacher's Course/Open clinic being organized within the United States; these courses are located in California, Maryland and Idaho. Instructors who are interested in riding in a Teachers' Course must have first gone through an application process to be selected by Bertrand Ravoux and Philippe Karl personally.

  • Open clinics are taught by any instructor certified with the school. They can be organized by anyone who wishes to do so and are open to all riders with no selection process.

About The Ecole de Légèreté

In 2004, Philippe Karl founded the School of Légèreté in order to pass on his philosophy of Légèreté to committed and qualified riding teachers. During this three-year training, you will learn all the basics of this riding philosophy and how to teach it to your students. After having passed the final exam, you will receive a license that authorizes you to teach the way of Légèreté in the name of Philippe Karl.
